Payroll Services for Small Business

Payroll Accounting Services That Keep Your Business Accurate, Compliant, and On Time

Nanak Accountants runs payroll for Australian small and medium businesses. We calculate wages, withhold PAYG tax, report each pay run to the ATO through Single Touch Payroll (STP) and make sure super reaches your employees’ funds on time under the Payday Super rules that started on 1 July 2026.

Outsourcing payroll to a registered tax agent suits employers who want pay day handled correctly without hiring in-house payroll staff, whether you have a few employees or a growing team.

Quick answer

We run your pay cycle from timesheets to the bank: wages and award rates, PAYG withholding, STP reporting to the ATO, super and leave records. Since 1 July 2026 super must reach each employee’s fund within 7 business days of pay day, so we run payroll and super together.

Payroll rules employers need to know in 2026-27

Four rules every employer needs to get right this financial year, and how we handle each one for you.

Your pay cycle under the 2026-27 rules

What has to happen, and by when, every time you pay staff

01
Super

Payday Super started on 1 July 2026

Super is now paid with wages, not once a quarter.

  • Must reach each employee’s fund within 7 business days of pay day
  • 12% of “qualifying earnings”: ordinary time earnings plus some other payments, such as commissions
  • The ATO’s Small Business Superannuation Clearing House is no longer available
How we help: we time super with every pay run.
02
Reporting

Single Touch Payroll every pay run

Every pay run is reported to the ATO through STP.

  • Report on or before pay day
  • Make the finalisation declaration by 14 July, so income statements show as tax ready in myGov
How we help: we report each pay run and finalise by 14 July.
03
Penalties

Late super now costs more

Late or short super triggers the super guarantee charge, assessed by the ATO.

  • Includes the missed super, interest that compounds daily and an administrative amount
  • Penalties of 25% or 50% of the unpaid charge can apply
How we help: we check super timing before each pay day.
04
State tax

Payroll tax is a separate tax

Charged by your state or territory revenue office, not the ATO.

  • Applies once your wages pass your state’s tax-free threshold
  • Thresholds and rates differ between states
  • Payments to contractors can also be subject to payroll tax
How we help: we check whether you need to register, and where.
